Recruitment has come a long way since running classified ads or posting positions on company billboards. Recruitment has evolved considerable to include online bulletin boards, CV databases and applicant tracking technology, candidate matching tools, online testing and assessment tools, and combined technologies to assist in the recruiting and selection processes. The recruitment age has just begun with an explosion of recruiting solutions developed to help the busy recruiter, to recruit as quickly and successfully. Companies from all over the world have created software applications, web applications, customer relationship management solutions, job boards, online CV databases, job posting tools, applicant tracking systems and cloud solutions. The movement from offline to online recruiting has been boosted by the range of new recruitment tools.

Back in the day recruiters would run a classified ad, sort through unsolicited CV’s, post a referral notice on the company bulletin board, and wait for the position to be filled. If it was an executive position recruitment agents might consider splashing out on a display ad in a local daily or weekly business magazine or trade magazine. The Internet revolutionised recruitment for recruitment agencies. People working in recruitment learned the tools of the trade to broadcast job positions to job seekers. ORC technologies allowed recruitment agencies to build their candidate pools based on research.

The last 25 years has seen an incredible technological change. The way we live, conduct commerce, communicate, and interact in general have been revolutionised. Recruitment is another area that technology has changed the way we live and operate. Today the recruiter’s box of tricks and gadgetry is almost endless. Recruitment technology will not make the placement for you, but it will post jobs, search CV’s and even tell you if the candidate is good for the job based on the CV. Recruitment technology allows you to record candidate information, post candidate information, post job adverts and track responses.

Things have changed but the better enabling recruitment agencies to work more efficiently and effectively. The use of recruitment technologies will continue to expand in the industry as new and better technologies become available. In order to stay ahead of the game or at least stay current recruitment agencies need to identify which recruitment solutions best suit their need and apply them vigorously.
